Evanston History 1924 – 2002

1950 Structure 1924 Structure1969/70 The structure built in 1924 that had been added to in 1950 was torn down and a new building was constructed. The first service and activities in the new church were held in December 1970. During the construction of the new building, the congregation worshiped in the Seventh Day Adventist Church on South Downing and East Yale Avenue.

1970 One Worship Service 8:30 a.m. Prior to moving into the new building, there were two worship services.

1984/85 The planning and construction of the Memorial Garden, east entrance to the church.

1985/86 The sale of parsonage to assist in financing the addition to the sanctuary, fellowship area, kitchen and nursery.

1988 An addition was completed that enlarged the sanctuary, fellowship room, kitchen and nursery.

1990 Established a “Latch Key” program for children attending Asbury Elementary School. The program was expanded to provide childcare (Evanston Community Child Care Center).

1990 New United Methodist Hymnals were provided for worship. Members of the congregation purchased them.

Stained Glass Window

1992 Stained Glass windows were added to the west entrance of the church as a memorial to Carroll Roggensack on September first.

1994 Stained Glass windows were added to the sanctuary and pastor’s study.

Boston Grand Piano

1998 The Boston Grand Piano was purchased.

1999 The Seventy-fifth(75th) Anniversary of the Church was held in March with a special service and dinner.

2000 The Evanston Community Child Care Center was closed due to the inability to hire qualified staff.

2001 The debt on the 1988 addition to the building was paid in full and a Mortgage Burning Service and Brunch were held on Sunday, June 3rd.

2001 Copies of the new supplement to the United Methodist Hymnal, The Faith We Sing, were provided for worship. Members of the congregation purchased them.

2001 The Three-Manual Allen Organ was given as a gift to the church. Dedication and a concert were held on Sunday, November 4th
