ACTION ITEMS [Back to Top]

What might we share and how might we bring forth our strengths in different areas.  Our goal as a group is to be complimentary not competitive.

· EUMC-(Larry)  book club (possibly do the Bishops Great Read as kick-off)

· EUMC (Neil) Create links between church web sites- connect Neil and other web masters and lift up an event that we want other churches to know about and share back and forth

· EUMC (Yvonne) reach out to immediate neighbors and families.  Possibly partnerships with Elementary schools.  Collective complementary statement to neighborhood, complementary evangelism.

· EUMC- (Vickers)- parish ministry-a volunteer system at first, UPark is offering several health ministries.

· Wash Park- Singles ministry-  both older adult and young adult

· EUMC- youth ministries-  need larger mass of youth to gather and do things.  And a young adult ministries

· UPark (Pat) - Spiritual Formation including retreats, spiritual gifts something available at each of the churches that would be in a flyer.

· UPark (Kathy) resources sharing, Disciple Bible Study, Living the Questions, etc….and offering the class at one place with options to attend classes at other churches.

· UPark (Carol) combining resources so could have numbers to do larger mission and outreach projects.  How can we support each other in the work we re doing now?  Many opportunities here!

· UPark (Edie) need critical mass for women’s group meetings.  Maybe do 4-5 meetings a year together and have the critical mass to do something with programming.

· UPark (Duane and Deb) have lots of programs but do not have critical mass to attend them.  Having these programs visible to other church communities would be helpful in obtaining critical mass.  Having other churches send youth to Food for All (thanksgiving baskets) or other large youth events.  (see http://www.universityparkumc.org)

· UPark (Debby) combine with other churches to offer Caring Disciples Training.

· EUMC (Bobbi) reflect from the perspective of who are demographic are and then look at mission in our own backyard.  Neighborhood profile and demographic research.  Larry Mugler would be an excellent resource.  Doing this study collectively and sharing resources would be helpful.

· EUMC (Les) we have to overcome personal ownership and see ourselves as a collective group doing things together and attending each others events so that we can have more opportunities.  Anything where we can use more resources we need to let other churches in collective know about these things so that they are listed and can be better attended.  Creating an effective contact list will be key to having these collective resources work  Not only a list of who to contact bout what but also the list of actual events (probably a common bulletin board for combined activities) Issuing an invitation.  Working toward building a collaboration of resources between our churches.

· EUMC (Shirley) transportation for older people.  Englewood has something like this.

· UPark (Paul) get people talking and make a statement to this community about who the UMC is and how they can be involved.  Collaboration between churches.  Maybe once a year have the committee chairs meet so they know what each other are doing.

· EUMC (Yvonne) Have worship swappers, have some of the leaders at each church worship at the other church.  Participate for a Sunday and learn about other churches.  What are they doing well and what could we learn from them.

· EUMC (Yvonne) after school counseling with children whose first language is not English.  A collective tutoring service to serve theses students.  Might be able to pull in students at DU and Iliff, especially international students.  Might be able to use retired people to read to or tutor within the schools.

· What ever we do has to be low cost.  We also need to figure out what hurdles we face with having all the congregations participate( language)

· UPark (Paul) Men’s gathering on Tuesdays in the morning targeted to retired men.

· UPark (Paul) Mayor’s initiative sponsoring a homeless family, and offering emergency shelter on cold nights.
